Barkhoff will sit the remainder of the season due to transfer rules
MACON, Ga. – Mercer Women's Basketball Head Coach Susie Gardner has announced the signing of transfer forward, Kiana Barkhoff.
Â
Barkhoff is transferring from Arizona, but will have to sit out the remainder of the 2018-19 season due to the NCAA transfer rules.
Â
Kiana Barkhoff
Kitzingen, Germany
Palm Harbor HS (Fla.) / Arizona University
Forward
6-3
Â
Barkhoff has not played in the 2018-19 season with Arizona as the Germany native has been in search of a new program to be a part of. However, Barkhoff played for Arizona as a true freshman in 2017-18, making 22 appearances. Barkhoff scored a total of 16 points and grabbed 27 rebounds on the season, while also averaging just under one block per game in 5.9 minutes per outing.
Â
Barkhoff played high school basketball at Palm Harbor High School in Palm Harbor, Fla., leading her team to a 24-8 record as a senior. Coming out of high school, Barkhoff was rated a three-star forward by ESPN.com out of Kitzingen, Germany and was rated as the 59th-best forward in the country. Barkhoff ranked in the top 20 nationally for most blocks throughout the season and holds the Palm Harbor record for most blocks in a game (15), most blocks in a season (198), most career blocks (374), rebounding average (10.2) and double-doubles in a season (15).
Â
What Coach Gardner Likes about Kiana
"We are excited to bring Kiana to Mercer, given the fact that we will be losing Amanda [Thompson] and Rachel [Selph] to graduation, two players who have started almost every game in their careers. It will be great to have a player with college experience, specifically in the Pac-12."
Â
What's Next?
Mercer (8-7) will kick off its Southern Conference schedule on Saturday when the Bears play host to the Samford Bulldogs (4-10). Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. inside Hawkins Arena.
