Amaya Evans and Jordyn Ebert Named SoCon Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week
MACON, Ga. – Mercer women's soccer players Amaya Evans and Jordyn Ebert have been named the SoCon Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week the conference office announced on Tuesday.
Â
Evans netted both game winners as Mercer went 2-0 on the week. The Bears downed Chattanooga, 2-1, on Friday and handed Samford its first regular-season conference loss since Sept. 25, 2016, on Sunday evening. Up 1-0 against Chattanooga, the freshman collected a free ball sent into the box and pushed Mercer's lead to two. Chattanooga's Hollie Massey got the Mocs on the board late in the first half but Evans's goal proved to be the difference. Scoreless against Samford, Evans scored the game-winner in the 88th minute of a rain-delayed contest, halting Samford's streak.
Ebert played all 180 minutes in goal for the Bears, allowing just one goal in the win over Chattanooga and recording a shutout against Samford. She faced 14 shots and tallied four saves in the win over the Mocs and totaled five saves on 13 shots faced against the Bulldogs. The shutout against Samford was her fifth of the season, moving her into the top five in program history for shutouts in a season.Â
The recognition is the first for both Evans and Ebert.Â
