Abigail Zoeller and Jordyn Ebert Named SoCon Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer midfielder/forward Abigail Zoeller and goalkeeper Jordyn Ebert have been named the Southern Conference women's soccer offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition Oct. 22-27.
Zoeller had a well-balanced week offensively, contributing in each of Mercer's two wins. In a 2-0 win over Wofford on Oct. 25, the junior netted the second goal of the game to stretch the lead. She was a part of both of Mercer's goals in a 2-0 win over Furman, who entered the contest unbeaten in conference play, in Sunday's regular-season finale. She assisted on the game-winner against the Paladins, setting up freshman Ciara Whitely for a goal in the second minute of play. Fifteen minutes later, the native of Independence, Kentucky, scored on a penalty kick to push the Bears' lead to two.
Ebert played the second half of the win over Wofford, facing five shots and recording two saves. The junior played all 90 minutes in the win over the Paladins and kept Furman off the board despite facing 13 shots. She tallied six saves in the shutout, her sixth of the year, and helped Mercer to its 15th win, setting a new program record for wins in a single season.
The recognition is the second of the season for both Zoeller, a preseason all-conference selection, and Ebert.
Mercer (15-3, 7-2 SoCon), the No. 4 seed, hosts No. 5 Western Carolina (11-7, 5-4) on Sunday, Nov. 3, in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference Championship.
