Mercer dropped to 1-3 on the season.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Mercer Women's Basketball team suffered a 111-56 defeat at the hands of the Alabama Crimson Tide at the Coleman Coliseum on Sunday afternoon.
Â
Alabama shot the ball exceptionally well throughout the game at a clip of 54.2 percent from the field and 51.9 from beyond-the-arc. The Crimson Tide showed off their depth with four players in double-figures and three others with nine points as their bench contributed 71 points in the contest.
Â
For Mercer, Shannon Titus scored a team-high 15 points. Amoria Neal-Tysor added 10 points while bringing down a team-high five rebounds. Rookie Jordan McLaughlin dished out a game-high six assists.
How It Happened
The Bears erased an early 7-0 deficit and took a 15-14 lead with 1:13 remaining in the first half following an 11-2 run. Mercer matched Alabama shot-for-shot in the first quarter until a buzzer-beating trey from De'sha Benjamin gave the home side a 20-17 lead and kick started the Crimson Tide offense.
Â
Bama went on to outscore the Bears 41-9 in the second quarter, fueled by 7-of-14 shooting from beyond-the-arc and 14-of-22 makes from the field. The 41 points before halftime set a new program record for points in a single quarter for Alabama.
Â
On the other side of the court, Mercer's offense struggled to get the job done as a PJ Wintermyer 3-pointer ended a 5:16 scoreless drought. Alabama took full advantage of the Bears' miscues by going on a 23-0 run over four-and-a-half-minutes to break the game open.
