Bears set to play Western Carolina in the first round
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Bears will travel to Spartanburg, S.C. for the 2019 Southern Conference Tournament where they will go head to head with No.3 Western Carolina on Friday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m.

Western Carolina finished the season with a 17-12 overall record, 11-5 in the Southern Conference. Senior Meagan Sanchez was named the SoCon's Libero of the Year, along with head coach Karen Clover being named Coach of the Year and sophomore Merry Gebel earning an All-SoCon second team spot. Meagan Sanchez has racked up 596 digs on the year, averaging 5.52 digs per set. Senior outside hitter Abigail Veit leads the team with 370 kills on the season.

NOTABLES
- Freshman Jaida Howell was named to the Southern Conference 2019 Postseason All-Freshman Team. She is the fifth Bear in Mercer recorded history to be named to the all-freshman team.
- Brittany Major set a career and season high in the match against Furman. She set a season-high 19 kills, one away from tying her career high set her freshman year and a career-high 21 digs.
- Annie Karle goes into the postseason leading the Bears in kills (299) and service aces (36). She tied her career-high 20 kills against Southern back on Sept. 13.
- Sophomore Nya Steele has recorded 607 assists on the season, averaging 8.43 per set. She has recorded 40+ assists seven times this season along with two double-doubles.
- Major and Karle are tied with five double-doubles each this season.
