SERIES HISTORY | LAST MEETING
Mercer leads the all-time series over Wofford, 6-5, dating back to the 1915 season – a game the Bears won, 13-6. The Bears won the first six all-time meetings with the Terriers, but have since dropped all five matchups since the football program returned in 2013.
Â
Mercer was unable to muster enough offensive momentum to pull off an upset of No. 7 Wofford in a 42-21 loss to the Terriers at Gibbs Stadium last October. The Bears lost to Wofford for the fifth time since joining the Southern Conference in 2014 as their offense tallied just seven points before the fourth quarter. Defensively, the Bears recorded two turnovers on downs in the first quarter and added a pair of interceptions.
Â
TAMING THE TERRIERS
Led by SoCon Offensive Player of the Month (October) and two-time offensive player of the week Joe Newman at quarterback, the Terriers boast one of the more potent rushing attacks in all of Division I football, averaging 333 yards per game on the ground - good enough for third among all teams in the FBS and FCS. They also possess the ball nearly 35 minutes per game (2nd in FCS).
