Mercer opens four-game week against in-state foe

MACON, Ga. – Peach State bragging rights will be on the line when Mercer opens a four-game week against in-state foe Georgia Tech at 6 p.m. Tuesday at OrthoGeorgia Park.

Mercer (11-10) and Georgia Tech (13-7) will meet for the 169th time in a series that goes back to 1897. Tuesday's contest will be streamed live on ESPN+ and have live stats available.

Mercer is 2-1 against in-state opponents, having defeated Georgia State and Savannah State.
Graduate transfer Kel Johnson is an alumnus of Georgia Tech, having made 139 starts for the Yellow Jackets from 2015-18. He'll face his former team once more this season on May 14 in Atlanta.
Johnson leads the Southern Conference in RBI (27), total bases (56) and home runs (10). He enters Tuesday's contest with a 20-game reached base streak.
Junior right-hander Sawyer Gipson-Long is expected to get the ball Tuesday. He has made four starts in six appearances and has 26 strikeouts in 20.2 innings.
RJ Yeager owns a seven-game hitting streak and is second on the team with a .341 batting average.
Freshman Angelo DiSpigna leads Mercer in batting (.368) and has three, three-hit performances in his last four games played.
Nine different Bears have hit at least one home run this season.
Tuesday is Mercer's eighth of 12 consecutive home games.

Scouting Georgia Tech
The Yellow Jackets are 13-7 overall entering Tuesday's clash in Macon and are coming off an ACC series win over Virginia at home. Georgia Tech has yet to drop a mid-week game, going 5-0 against in-state opponents Georgia State, Georgia Southern and Kennesaw State.

The Jackets' lineup (.291 overall batting average) is led by junior catcher Kyle McCann, who owns a .400 average with 12 home runs and 30 RBI through 20 games played. Right-hander Amos Willingham is expected to start on the mound for GT; he is 2-0 with a 3.92 ERA in 20.2 innings pitched.
