Mercer women see eight-match win streak snapped

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's tennis team suffered a 4-3 loss to Samford in Southern Conference play on Thursday afternoon at the Leroy Peddy Tennis Center.

The loss was Mercer's first in conference action and dropped the Bears to 10-8 overall and 2-1 the SoCon. Samford (10-6, 1-0 SoCon) earned its first conference win.

Katie Sidor and Celine Schepers earned a 6-3 doubles win in the No. 2 seed, but the Bears fell, 3-6, in the No. 1 and No. 3 seeds as Samford earned the doubles point. Mercer won the first three singles matches of the day to take a 3-1 lead before Samford stormed back with the final three points to clinch the victory.

Sidor (6-4, 6-3), Schepers (6-2, 6-3) and Marie Mottet (6-3, 6-4) all won in straight sets in the No. 1, 4 and 5 seed matches.
