
Ross Cummings Earns All-SoCon Honors

The Bears’ leading scorer garners second-team All-SoCon accolades
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer men's basketball standout Ross Cummings has been named to the All-Southern Conference second-team the league office announced Wednesday afternoon. Cummings was selected second-team by both the coaches and the SoCon Sports Media Association (SCSMA).
Cummings, the conference's fourth leading scorer with a 17.6 per game average, has been one of the league's top offensive performers throughout the 2018-19 season. The 6-3 junior from Dickson, Tenn., has twice been named the SoCon Player of the Week (Jan. 7-14 and Feb. 18-25) and he is regarded as one of the top three point shooting threats in the conference. He scored what was then a career-high 36 points in the Jan. 10 victory against Western Carolina and established a new career-high with a 37-point outburst in the Feb. 23 win over UT Chattanooga.
Cummings ranks fourth in the SoCon in three point shots made per game (3.3), fifth in free throw shooting (.812), and fifth in minutes played (33.2). He has scored in double figures in 21 games, gone over the 20-point scoring mark in 11 games, and eclipsed the 30-point mark in four contests.
Wofford's Fletcher Magee was chosen the league's consensus Player of the Year while the Terriers' Mike Young was named the SoCon's Coach of the Year.
Mercer is the No. 6 seed in this weekend's Ingles Southern Conference Basketball Championship presented by General Shale scheduled for March 8-11 in Asheville, N.C. The Bears take on the No. 3 seed Furman Paladins in second round action Saturday, March 9 with tipoff time set for 8:30 p.m. (ET) at the U.S. Cellular Center.
