Mercer set to open season Thursday at Betts Stadium

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's soccer team will kick off its 2019 regular season by hosting Kennesaw State Thursday at Betts Stadium; the match is set to start at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on the SoCon Digital Network.

SERIES HISTORY | LAST MEETING
The Bears and Owls have come face-to-face 12 times, with the Owls taking 8, the Bears 3, and tying 1. The two tied, 2-2, at Kennesaw State last season.

NOTABLES

Mercer is 5-3-1 in season openers under Head Coach Tony Economopoulos. The Bears won at home against USC-Aiken 7-0, in last season's opener.
The Bears finished the 2018 season with an overall record of 9-7-4 (4-3-2), falling in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference Tournament at ETSU.
Coach Economopoulos enters his eighth year at the helm of the Mercer squad. In Economopoulos' tenure, Mercer has not had a losing season.

SCOUTING THE OWLS
Kennesaw finished the 2018 season with a 12-6-1 overall record and 5-3 conference mark. The Owls have won three of their last four season openers. Kennesaw State's 30-woman roster features four seniors and ten juniors. Much like the Bears, the Owls welcome several newcomers, with nine freshmen on the squad. The Owls are led by head coach Benji Walton, who is entering his third season at the helm.
