Bears shutout the Bearcats in the season-opener
CINCINNATI, Ohio – Mercer men's soccer started 2019 off on the right foot Friday night, downing Cincinnati, 2-0, in the season-opener at Gettler Stadium.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Ousman Jabang came off the bench and made an immediate impact, putting two shots on goal and scoring his first career goal in the match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bears took an early lead in the contest after a goal from sophomore Jason Nduese-Udom assisted by Roberto Arteaga in the eighth minute – the goal was the second of Nduese-Udom's career. That goal proved all that Mercer would need to win it, as JR DeRose recorded a clean sheet with five saves – his sixth career shutout.
Mercer was then able to ice it away with a 90th-minute strike from freshman Ousman Jabang off an assist from reigning SoCon Player of the Year Trevor Martineau.
