Bears Close Out Tournament with Win against Campbell

Mercer defeated Campbell 3-1 to end the Mercer Bear Classic
MACON, Ga.  –  The Mercer Bears volleyball team went 3-1 (25-13, 25-19, 22-25, 25-17) to close out he Mercer Bears Classic to start their season 2-1.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set One (25-13) |The Bears started the match with an Annie Karle kill then a block by Brittany Major. This would put Mercer on 8-1 run with back-to-back blocks from Jaida Howell and Brittany Major. The tempo would stay with the Bears with another kill from Annie Karle and one from Jaida Howell. Mercer ended the match on an error by Campbell

Set Two (25-19) |Â A back-and-forth set that featured six ties in the set was claimed by Mercer after a pair of kills, an ace, and a Campbell error that earned the Bears the final four points. Four different Bears recorded blocks- Brittany Major, Jaida Howell, and Roberta Todd each got one while Alexia Morey blocked two.Â

Set Three (22-25) |Â Mercer went down 1-4 in another back-and-forth battle with a few lead changes that eventually went to Campbell. A kill from Roberta Todd wasn't enough to stop the Camels from going on a 4-1 run to end the set 25-22.Â

Set Four (25- 17) |The Bears found their tempo again and capped the match against the Camels. It was close in the beginning, but Mercer pulled it out by going on a 7-2 run in the fourth set with kills from Annie Karle and Alexia Morey. Brittany Major scored back-to-back points with a kill, assisted by Nya Steele, then an ace to put the Bears up 16-11. Mercer won the set and the match on an attack error by Campbell.

Nicholls State's Meghan Wozniak won MVP In the Mercer Bears Classic, with All Tournament honors going to Emily Venable (Nicholls State), Madison Brown (Georgia Southern), Maddie Bryant (Georgia Southern), and Mercer's own Brittany Major and Emilee Wissmach.
