
Mercer Announces 2019-20 Men’s Basketball Schedule

Bears host 15 games at Hawkins Arena; Open season Nov. 6 at St. Johns
MACON, Ga. – Mercer men's basketball has announced its 31 game schedule along with an exhibition game that features 15 games at Hawkins Arena and participation in the Boca Raton Beach Classic for the upcoming season which highlights the 2019-20 season that was released Thursday.

"We are looking forward to a very competitive schedule that will get us prepared for the SoCon," remarked head coach Greg Gary.

After playing a home exhibition contest against St. Andrews on Oct. 29, the Bears open the regular season in Queens, N.Y. playing against power conference foe St. Johns on Nov. 6.

"Coach Anderson is an excellent coach and St. Johns has a great tradition," Coach Gary said.

Mercer's home opener is two days later and opens a three game home stand for the Bears. Mercer takes on Columbia International University in the home opener on Nov. 8. Following that contest, Mercer hosts Kennesaw State on Nov. 11 and Florida Gulf Coast on Nov. 15.

Following the three-game home stand, the Bears are on the road for its next five games, four of those games are part of the Boca Raton Beach Classic. Mercer will face Illinois-Chicago (Nov. 23), St. Bonaventure (Nov. 26) as part of the Boca Raton Beach Classic at those respected schools. Dec. 1 and 2, the Bears travel down to Boca Raton for the conclusion of the tournament. The final two games will be played at Florida Atlantic.

"It will be an exciting event and it will be a good test for us in a tournament format," stated Coach Gary.

Mercer closes out its non-conference schedule by hosting Georgia State (Dec. 7), Florida Atlanta (Dec. 22) and Milligan (Dec. 28) and traveling to UNC Wilmington (Dec. 16).

On Dec. 20 the Bears open Southern Conference action when they host Furman at Hawkins Arena. The 18-game schedule features the Bears at Hawkins Arena nine times. Mercer hosts UNC Greensboro, the SoCon regular season runner-up, on Feb. 15. Mercer squares off with Wofford on Feb. 12 in Spartanburg, S.C. and on Feb. 29 to close out the regular season at Hawkins Arena.
The Ingles Southern Conference Basketball Championships presented by General Shale will be held March 6-9 at Harrah's Cherokee Center Asheville in Asheville, North Carolina. Â

The Bears are coming off a 11-20 overall and 6-12 in the SoCon a year ago. Mercer earned a berth to the SoCon Tournament as the sixth seed last season. Nine of the 11 wins for the Bears came at Hawkins Arena last season.
