Mercer wins eighth straight; records fifth shutout of the season
LEXINGTON, Va. – Mercer women's soccer won its eighth-straight contest on Friday afternoon with a 2-0 victory over VMI to open SoCon action. Mercer was led by freshman Nicole Icen, who scored both of the goals for the Bears. Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first half, the Bears and Keydets had scoring opportunities but the goalkeepers stood tall and recorded five saves each, keeping the game scoreless heading to halftime.

Coming out of halftime, the Bears controlled play and six minutes into the second half the Bears broke the scoreless tie. Sarah Adcock found Icen in the box who beat the goalie for her first goal of the contest. Ten minutes after the first goal, Icen struck again. Abigail Zoeller found Icen who beat the goalie for her second goal of the game, extending the Bears lead to 2-0.

The Bears continued to pressure the Keydets defense but would not score again and Mercer came away with a 2-0 victory. With the win, Mercer improves to 9-1-0 on the season and 1-0-0 in SoCon play.
