Mercer Heads to Atlanta To Face Georgia Tech

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's tennis team returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 21 when they travel north on I-75 to face Georgia Tech. The Bears and Yellow Jackets will play twice on Tuesday, starting at 4 p.m. from the Byers Tennis Complex.

Scouting the Yellow Jackets
Georgia Tech enters the matchup with the Bears with a perfect 4-0 record. The Yellow Jackets were last in action on Jan. 18 when they defeated Furman, 4-3, and Presbyterian, 4-0. Georgia Tech is led by Kenya Jones and Gia Cohen. Jones finds herself ranked No. 53 in the ITA women's tennis singles while Cohen is ranked No. 73. Jones and Victoria Flores are ranked 51^st in doubles. This season, Jones is 1-1 playing No. 1 singles for the Yellow Jackets. She is 6-6 on the season, including going 5-5 in fall tournaments. Flores leads the team with 10 wins on the season, as she was 8-2 in tournaments, and now is 2-1 in singles play. Cohen is 3-0 this spring, as has won a match playing No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Flores and Jones are a perfect 3-0 playing doubles this season. They have won four straight matches as a doubles team. As a team, Georgia Tech as only lost one doubles match of the season. Rodney Harmon leads the Yellow Jackets and he is in his seventh season at the helm.

Following the doubleheader with Georgia Tech, The Bears return to action on Friday, Feb. 7 when they travel to Cullowhee, N.C. to open SoCon play against Western Carolina.
