Mercer Picked First in Preseason Coaches’ Poll

Bears snag four spots on All-SoCon Team
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Mercer women's lacrosse team was picked to finish first in the 2020 Southern Conference preseason coaches' poll for the first time, the league office announced Friday afternoon.

Four Bears were named to the 12-member Preseason All-SoCon Team; sophomore attacker Hailey Rhatigan, senior midfielder Catie Snee, senior defender Michaela Lucas, and junior goalie Iseabal Cryne. This is Lucas' second time being named to the All-SoCon preseason team- the first came last season.

This is Mercer's first time in the first place spot on the preseason coaches' poll. In 2019, the Bears were picked fourth and in 2018, they were picked second. Furman came in behind the Bears with 20 points (1 first place vote), followed by Central Michigan (19 points, 1 first place vote). Mercer finished the regular season tied for first place, then went on to win the Southern Conference championship for the second consecutive year.

The Bears open the 2020 campaign against High Point on Feb. 7 at Vert Stadium at 6p.m.
