Bears to Compete in Florida State Invitational on Friday

The meet is the first event away from home for the Bears
MACON, Ga. – Head coach Josh Hayman and the Mercer men's and women's cross country teams will hit the road for the first time this season as they compete in the Florida State Invitational on Friday morning.

Ashley McMahon will look to continue the mojo for the Mercer women's team as she paced the field at the Julius Johnson Invitational on Sept. 19. McMahon picked up the individual win and led the Bears to the first win of the Josh Hayman era. McMahon ran the race in 18:46.66, 10 seconds better than the second-place finisher, Valdosta State's Angela Cipriani. Three other Mercer runners – Zoe Sanchez, Marina Van Sickle and Giulia Giorgi – all finished in the top-10. Sanchez finished seventh in her first collegiate race. As a team, the Bears earned 41 points, narrowly defeating Georgia State. The Panthers accumulated 43 points.
In men's action at the season opener, Mercer was led by Josiah Jaqua (27:37.81). Jaqua finished fourth, while Fuad Batteh and Vladi Zander-Velloso finished eighth and ninth with times of 27:53.54 and 28:19.40 respectively.
The men's collegiate open will begin at 8:30 a.m. eastern time tomorrow with the women's collegiate open to follow at 9:05 a.m.
