Mercer Falls to The Citadel In Four

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Mercer Bears fell to the The Citadel in four set on Thursday night at McAlister Field House.

The Bears lost 3-1 (25-21, 22-25, 21-25, 21-25).

MERCER VS THE CITADEL
Â
Set One | Mercer was off to a hot start taking four of the first five points behind a kill from Brittany Major and a service ace from Rayanne de Oliveira. The Citadel took the lead for a minute but the Bears worked their way back to the lead. Freshman Neveah Edwards registered her first collegiate kill to add to Mercer's lead. Lexi Uhrhan's service ace would put the Bears within five. Malia Randolph would end the set with a kill from Nya Steele. Mercer would take the set 25-21.

Set Two | Nya Steele opened the second set for the Bears with a kill. Annie Karle, Rayanne de Oliveira, and Neveah Edwards would give Mercer the early lead. The citadel would work their way back and tie the set and take the lead. Mercer would tie it back up at 18 with a kill from Karle. It was another service ace to make the Bears the first team to 20, but this time it was from de Oliveira. The Bulldogs would go on a run to take the set 25-22.

Set Three | Mercer got off to a slow start. The Citadel started off with the lead and kept it until Edwards tied it up at six a piece. The bulldogs would take the lead again. A kill from Karle and an ace from de Oliveira would cut the Bulldogs lead to one. The Citadel would take the lead again and take the match 25-21.

Set Four | Mercer started the fourth set slow. They went behind the Bulldogs 7-3. Neveah would cut the margin to four with a kill and an assist from Steele. Mercer would go on a late run with kills from Randolph and Brittany Major. The Citadel would take the set 25-21.

Mercer will head to Bowling Green, Ky for a match against Western Kentucky. The match is slated for 1 p.m. ET.
