Mercer to Return to Action at Blazer Classic

This is the Bears’ lone trip to the state of Alabama.
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Bears cross country teams will return to action on Friday morning as they make the trip to UAB for the third consecutive season.

In the 2019 Blazer Classic, Vladi Zander-Velloso led the Bears to a ninth-place showing as a team. His 8K time of 25:22 placed him 35th overall. On the women's side, Ashley McMahon helped Mercer finish 17th overall. She ran the 6K in 22:32.
This season, McMahon has led the women's squad in each of its two races. She won the Julius Johnson Invitational on Sept. 19 and helped the Bears earn a team victory as well. At the FSU Invitational on Oct. 2, McMahon led the team with a time of 18:45.6 to finish 20th overall.
Velloso and Josiah Jaqua have been a steady force for the Mercer men. Jaqua finished fourth in the season opener with a time of 27:37.81 while Velloso was clocked at 28:19.40, placing him eighth. In the Bears' second meet of the year, Velloso led the way with a top-10 showing, running the race in 25:54.4. Jaqua was not far behind, ending the event in 16th with a time of 26:29.7.
In Mercer's most recent meet – nine runners set personal bests. Jaycie Calvert, Whitney Johnson, Isabella LeBlanc, Bella Rhone, Bri Teegarden, Zoe Sanchez and Marina Van Sickle set new PRs on the women's side, while Fuad Batteh and Chris French were the two men's runners to leave FSU with a new PR.
The men's 8K will start at 10:20 a.m. eastern time tomorrow, while the women will race at 10:55 a.m. Live results are available via Xpress Timing.
