Alex Crotty was a four year member of the baseball team
MACON, Ga. – Throughout the month of April, Mercer University athletics will feature each of the seniors who wore the Black & Orange during the shortened spring 2020 season.
The NCAA has indicated that spring sports seniors could receive an extra season of eligibility and return, as the 2020 spring season would have been their final year of competition, all student-athletes representing Bears baseball, softball, men's golf, women's golf, men's tennis, women's tennis, men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, beach volleyball and track and field will receive their "Senior Day" this spring.

About Alex
Alex Crotty is a four year member of the baseball team. He appeared in 140 games over his four years and had a .278 career batting average. Crotty was named to the 2019 SoCon All-Tournament Team and was a Spring Academic All-SoCon recipient. He started his career by being named to the 2017 SoCon All-Freshman Team.

To start his senior season, Crotty was named to the 2020 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year watch list. Over eight games to start the 2020 season, Crotty hit .333 and drove in three runs. He had an on-base percentage of .375. He drove in two runs in a win over Radford on Feb. 22.

During his junior season, Crotty hit a career-high four home runs and had a career-high 42 hits, while also driving in a career-best 22 runs. Crotty hit three home runs and tallied nine RBI in the SoCon Tournament. He helped guide the Bears to their sixth conference tournament title, first since 2015, and the teams' fourth trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Coach's Thoughts
"Alex has been a great player for the program and has guided us to multiple championships," remarked head coach Craig Gibson. "He is an outstanding athlete but even a better person. I can't wait to see what Alex achieves off the field. He will always be part of the Bear Family."
