Linnea Rosendal, a native of Stockholm, Sweden, is returning home to play for A3 Basket
UMEA, Sweden – Former Mercer women's basketball standout Linnea Rosendal has signed with the A3 Basket.
Rosendal, a native of Stockholm, Sweden, returns to her home country to continue her professional career after spending the 2019-20 season with C.B. Arxil Pontevedra in Spain's LF2. In her first year of professional basketball, Rosendal averaged 8.0 points and 2.7 rebounds per game in 21 games while shooting 33.3 percent from the floor. Additionally, she shot 35.8 percent from beyond-the-arc and 80.0 percent from the free throw line.
Â
"I'm super excited to begin my second year as a professional basketball player," stated Rosendal. "It feels like the right decision to play in Sweden because of the current situation. We have a very interesting team with a lot of different kinds of players from many countries. Our goal is to win the Swedish league, which I think we have a good shot at. Overall, I'm glad to be able to play in front of my friends and family this season."
Â
The 6-1 sharpshooter was a key component in the winningest senior class in school history – a group that led the Bears to 104 wins, four consecutive SoCon Championships and a couple of appearances in the NCAA Tournament. She left Mercer with the third-most made threes in program history with 181, while also ranking in the top 10 in three-point field goal percentage. She was named the SoCon Freshman of the Year in 2016 after knocking down 65 threes in 33 contests.
Â
"Linnea came to us from Sweden and made an immediate impact by being named the SoCon Freshman of the Year," remarked head coach Susie Gardner. "She had an outstanding, history-making career at Mercer and was able to transition to the professional circuit by play one year in Spain. After talking with Linnea, I know she is really excited to be back playing professionally in Sweden so her friends and family can watch her play. We are very proud of Linnea and the fact that she is continuing to chase her dreams."
Â
There are currently five former Bears who are playing professional basketball: Briana Williams (GIE Lady Matrix – WUBA, United States), KeKe Calloway (Forssan Alku - Finland), Kahlia Lawrence (Portugal), Linnea Rosendal (A3 Basket - Sweden) and Teanna Williams (Lady Cardinals de Lajas – Puerto Rico).
