
Bears Dominate Bulldogs

Bears continue winning streak within the conference
Macon, Ga. – The Mercer Bears returned home after three weeks and dominated the Samford Bulldogs, winning in three straight sets. The win over the Bulldogs improve the Bears streak to five, with a conference record of 6-1.

Set One (25-22)Â | A kill from Annie Karle followed by a block by Taylor Lynch and Rayanne de Oliveira would give Mercer the first two points of the set. Mercer's next five points would include a kill from de Oliveira followed by a block from de Oliveira and Lynch. Lynch recorded a kill and another block with Jaida Howell to give the Bears a five-point lead, 7-2. Â Errors would give the Bulldogs a few points before a block from Agnieska Paskevic and kills by de Oliveira brought the Bears lead back to five, 15-10. Later in the set, three straight aces from the Bulldogs tied the game at 20. After a Mercer timeout, kills from Karle and de Oliveira but the Bears up by two, 22-20. Kills from de Oliveira and Karle would give the Bears their 24th and 25th point, respectively to finish set one.
Set Two (25-16)Â | de Oliveira would record two straight kills to get Mercer on the board, 2-1. Â Two kills from Brittany Major followed by one from Karle would put the Bears up by six, 12-6. After a Bulldogs timeout, Karle recorded another kill. Howell, Karle, Major, and Lynch (2) would record kills before Samford took another timeout, 19-13. The last six points would come quickly with kills by Major and Howell. de Oliveira and Paskevic would record a block together before two kills by Karle would close set two, 25-16.
Set Three (25-17)Â | de Oliveira would record a kill and a block with Major to take the lead in the third set, 2-1. A few errors would tie the game but back-to-back recorded kills from Howell would put the Bears back in the lead by one, 6-5. Blocks by the Bulldogs tied the game at 10. The teams would trade points before a kill from Howell broke the tie at 12 and errors allowed the Bears to take a three-point lead before a Samford timeout, 15-12. After Samford's final timeout, Karle and Paskevic recorded kills, 20-14. The Bears would go on a 4-0 run to take the match which started with a kill from Lynch and ended in a block by Howell and Lynch. Â
