Bears To Battle The Citadel In Road Contest

Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. in Charleston, S.C.
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer football team is back on the road this Saturday, October 30 to take on The Citadel. Kickoff for the Bears vs Bulldogs matchup is set for 2 p.m. in Charleston, South Carolina.

- Fred Davis' ten rushing touchdowns this season currently ranks fifth in the FCS. He has a total of 663 yards on the season which ranks 14th in the FCS.
- The Bears rank second in the SoCon in total offense (439.1) and scoring offense (34.0).
- The defensive unit ranks second in the SoCon in total defense, allowing 326 YPG.
- Michael Campbell ranks fourth in the conference in pass breakups with seven.
- Ken Standley leads the Bears with 42 tackles this season. He ranks 15th in the SoCon in total tackles. He is tied for eighth in the SoCon in tackles for loss.
- Solomon Zubairu sits at fifth in the SoCon with four sacks on the season.
- Fred Payton leads the air attack for the Bears. The Coastal Carolina transfer has tossed for 1,075 yards and nine touchdowns at the midway point of the season.
- Ethan Dirrim leads the Bears in catches with 18. Ty James leads the team in receiving yards (368 yards) and touchdowns (6) this season.
- Devin Folser set a new school record for longest field goal when he split the uprights from 51 yards against Western Carolina. He had previously matched the school record of 50 yards earlier in the game.
- Mercer takes on The Citadel this week. The Bears are 6-11-1 against the Bulldogs, with Mercer winning last year's matchup with a 42-28 scoreline.
- Fred Davis was named the Stats Perform FCS player of the Week and the SoCon player of the week for his performance in the Bears victory over Samford. Davis rushing for a school record of 276 yards and five touchdowns. The previous school single game rushing record was 202 yards and the previous single game touchdown record was four. The Bears would take down Samford in a thriller, 45-42.
- Lance Wise was named SoCon defensive player of the week for his performance against WCU. Wise posted eight tackles (six solo), forced a fumble, and had an interception that he returned 56 yards to the one-yard line.
- Jason Poe was featured on Bruce Feldman's Freaks of College Athletics List, which ranked the top 100 most athletic players in college football. Poe, an offensive lineman who transferred from Lenoir-Rhyne, earned the 68th spot on Feldman's list.
- HERO Sports named Mercer linebacker Isaac Dowling a preseason All-American. Dowling received HERO Sports Third Team All-America honors and was one of five linebackers to receive recognition, joining Bryce Flater (Northern Iowa), Tristan Wheeler (Richmond), Adrian Hope (Furman) and Jack Cochrane (South Dakota).
SCOUTING THE CITADEL
- The Citadel comes in with a 2-5 record overall and a 1-3 mark in league play.
- The Bulldogs picked up their two wins of the season over North Greenville and VMI.
- The Citadel is under the guidance of head coach Brent Thompson. Thompson is 30-35 during his six seasons in Charleston.
- The Bulldogs pace the conference in rushing offense, averaging 263 a contest.
- The Citadel is the top punting team in the conference, averaging 42.1 yards per punt.
- Running back, Jaylan Adams, ranks third in the SoCon, averaging 97.9 rushing yards per game.
- Willie Eubanks III ranks fourth in the SoCon in tackles, averaging 8.4 per game.
