
Mercer Defeats ETSU In Straight Sets in Home Finale

Bears finish with 12 straight set wins at home
MACON, Ga.  –The Mercer Bears concluded their home season with a three set sweep over the ETSU Bucs on Monday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Set One (25-21) |The Bears fell behind early in first set with ETSU taking a 9-6 lead. Mercer responded to the deficit with an 11-5 run. Malia Randolph started the run with a kill. Annie Karle, Taylor Lynch, and Brittany Major each scored during the run. The Bucs would score back-to-back to cut the Bears lead to one. Two kills from Jaida Howell and two points from the Bucs would tie the set up at 19. ETSU would score two more times but the Bears would take the set with a block from Major and Howell.

Set Two (25-23) | Both squads came out hot in the second set, each splitting the first 20 points. Major opened the scoring for the Bears with back-to-back kills. The Black and Orange went up by three points behind points from Rayanne de Oliveira and Brittany Major. The Bucs answered with a 4-1 run taking a 15-14 lead. Mercer answered with their own run scoring the next seven of 11 points. De Oliveira served to aces during the run. ETSU came back and took a 23-22 lead, but Mercer scored three straight to take a set lead. Â Â

Set Three (25-23) | ETSU started out in front in the third set, taking a 6-5 lead. Both teams traded points back and forth, the largest lead being three points when Mercer took a 20-17 lead. Before that, Jaida Howell led the Bears in scoring. ETSU would go on to score four straight to take a one point lead. An attack error from the Bucs would tie the set at 21 each. Mercer would take a two point lead behind points from Taylor Lynch and Jaida Howell. ETSU put pressure on the Bears with a point to make it a one point set, but Lynch would end the set and match with a kill.

The Bears will conclude their regular season with a pair of matches against the Furman Paladins on Sunday and Monday. Sunday's match is set for 2 p.m. while Monday is set for 6 p.m.

- Brittany Major recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs.
- Along with Major's 10 kills, Jaida Howell was the other Bear to have double digit kills with 10 on the night as well.
- Four Bears had double digit kills. Taylor Lynch and Annie Karle led with 13, followed by Lexi Uhrhan with 12 and Brittany Major with 11.
- Agnieska Paskevic led the team with 17 assists, followed by Malia Randolph with 16.
