Bears to Conclude Regular Season at Betts Stadium

The Bears are slated to play Western Carolina on Thursday at 6 p.m.
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Bears are set to play their regular season finale on Thursday at 6 p.m. against Western Carolina.
Mercer will no longer play ETSU on Saturday, as the Bucs announced the cancelation of their season. Mercer currently has 12 points and sits fourth in the Southern Conference standings. Western Carolina sits seventh with nine points.

The Bears are 5-4-0 against Western Carolina. The two squads battled twice in the 2019 regular season. Western Carolina used three first half goals to defeat Mercer. 4-1, in the regular season, but the Bears were victorious in the Southern Conference tournament, 1-0, thanks to Ally Fordham's goal with two minutes remaining in the second overtime. SCOUTING THE BEARS
The Bears' four-match winning streak was snapped at Samford last Friday. Brie Pavol scored her first goal of the 2020-21 campaign in the 51st minute, but back-to-back unanswered goals gave the Bulldogs the victory. Mercer traveled to Chattanooga on Sunday and was shutout for just the second time this season. Fordham leads the team with eight goals and is tied with Kendall Cook for the team lead in points with 17. Cook has had a stellar spring, scoring six goals and adding five assists. Mercer is currently 4-3 in SoCon play.
SCOUTING THE CATAMOUNTS
Western Carolina enters Thursday's match with a 4-6 record and 3-4 mark in Southern Conference play. The Catamounts kept their playoff hopes alive with a 3-1 victory against Wofford on Monday night thanks to goals from Summit Dann, Bella Pighini and Maggie Lloyd. Lloyd and Regan Ward have each scored three goals for the Catamounts, and Lloyd leads the team with eight points having also assisted on two goals. Rea Syska has not scored in 2021 but has a knack for connecting with the goal scorer as she has recorded six helpers. In goal, Melody Mezzina has made 35 saves.
