Mercer Sets Program Record in Three Set Win Over Wofford

Bears improve win streak to nine
MACON, GA.  –The Mercer Bears set a program record for most conference win in a season since joining the Southern Conference with a 3-0 win over the Wofford Terriers on Monday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Set One (25-9) | The Bears opened the first set quickly taking the first two points with kills from Malia Randolph and Annie Karle. A block from Brittany Major and Rayanne de Oliveira would start a 12-2 run for the Bears to give them the dominant 17-4 lead. Wofford would to cut the lead but the Black and Orange finished the set with a 5-0 run. Taylor Lynch ended the set with a kill from Agnieska Paskevic.

Set Two (25-20) |Wofford came out in the second set keeping it close. Both teams were tied at five all, until Wofford went on a 5-1 run. The Bears responded with three straight points from Annie Karle and Lexi Uhrhan. The Bears and Terriers traded points and Mercer would come within one. Wofford would go on a 3-0 run to take a four point lead. Mercer responded with a 10-2 run to take the four point lead over Mercer. Brittany Major led the team with two kills during the run. Annie Karle and Rayanne de Oliveira would each record a kill to end the set for the Bears and give them a 2-0 lead.

Set Three (25-22) | The Bears and Terriers kept it a close game until each team was tied at seven. Malia Randolph started an 11-3 run to give Mercer a dominant 15-8 lead. Annie Karle and Malia Randolph started the run with kills. Megan Smith served two aces during the run while also recording an assist to Taylor Lynch's kill. Wofford ended the Bears run and went on a 5-0 to cut Mercer's lead to one. Wofford tried to make a comeback but Megan Smith sealed the win for the Bears with an ace.

- With the win, Mercer sets a program record for most conference win since joining the Southern Conference.
- Annie Karle was the lone Bear who had a double-double. She had 14 kills and 13 digs in the match.
- Malia Randolph led with 20 assists, bringing her season total to 211.
- Jaida Howell, Taylor Lynch, and Malia Randolph each recorded a solo block in the match.
