Baseball Hosts Florida A&M In Midweek Action

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer University baseball team returns to OrthoGeorgia Park on Wednesday to host Florida A&M in a midweek contest. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.

Batting Practice

Wednesday marks the Bears and Rattlers 124th meeting between the two programs. The first meeting came during the 1986 season, and Mercer came away with a 9-0 victory. Mercer and Florida A&M will meet again next week in a two-game midweek series in Tallahassee, Fla.
Mercer is looking to extend its winning streak against Florida A&M on Wednesday. The Bears have won seven straight meetings dating back to the 2018 season.
Sophomore Jackson Kelley was named SoCon Pitcher of the Week on Monday. He tossed 7.1 innings on the season and only allowed one run and four hits to No. 14 South Carolina. He tallied five punch outs, including two on Wes Clarke.
For the first time since Feb. 28, the Bears return to OrthoGeorgia Park.
The Bears have hit 12 home runs on the season with eight coming in their series against Southern Illinois. Seven different players have hit a home run this season. Ryan Archibald leads the team with three home runs.
Mercer was picked to finish second in the 2021 Preseason SoCon Coaches and Media Polls. The Bears were picked behind Samford in both polls.
The Bears lead the Southern Conference with 22 doubles this season, which ranks 30th in the NCAA. Mercer is averaging 2.2 doubles per game, the 31st best mark. Nine different Bears have hit a double, and the team is led by Angelo DiSpigna, who has six.
Yeager has started every game at shortstop since he arrived on campus as a freshman. He has currently started 150 consecutive games.
Mercer is one of just four NCAA Division I programs to win at least 35 games in each of the past 10 full seasons, joining LSU, Florida State and Vanderbilt.
Since 2010, the Bears are the winningest Division I baseball program in the state of Georgia. The Bears have won 397 games, six more wins than Georgia Tech who is second on the list.

The Rattlers come into the contest with the Bears with a 0-11 mark on the season. Don't be fooled, the Rattlers have faced top competition this season as they have played Stetson, who was picked second in the ASUN, No. 6 Florida and South Florida.

Leading the Rattlers at the plate is Grant Rowell, who is hitting .318 on the season. He has had seven hits in 22 at-bats, with five extra-base hits. He has a team-high five RBI on the season. LJ Bryant is has started in every game this season and is hitting .265 with one bomb and three RBI.

The Rattlers pitching staff holds an ERA of 7.24. Wednesday's starter, Josh Barr, will make his second appearance of the season. He has thrown four innings and has a 2.25 earned run average. He has allowed one run, issued one walk and struck out three batters this season.

Zach Morea leads the team with four appearances this season. He has pitched three innings and holds an ERA of 9.00 on the season. Landon Nevill has made three appearances and has pitched three innings. Nevill has not allowed a run and has only given up two hits. Teams are hitting .299 off the Rattlers this season.
