MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's soccer staff announced the addition of Xavier transfer Lucy Brand on Wednesday afternoon.
Brand comes to Mercer after spending time with the Musketeers. As a true freshman, Brand appeared in a pair of matches for 18 minutes. Xavier went 2-0 in games where Brand played on the backline and outscored opponents, 9-0. Prior to Xavier, Brand, a native of Greenfield, Ind., played for Greenfield-Central High School and FC Pride '01 Elite. Brand had a stellar high school career, playing four years on the varsity squad and leading the Cougars to a 43-20-3 record and four playoff appearances.
Greenfield-Central advanced to the sectionals in each of Brand's final two seasons and had a stellar 26-6-0 mark over her junior and senior campaigns. Brand led the Cougars to a 14-3-0 record and an IHSSA 3A sectionals semifinal appearance and scored nine goals while tallying 11 assists over the course of the season. In Brand's final season as a Cougar, she scored 13 goals and also recorded 13 helps for 39 points. Greenfield-Central went 12-3-0 and advanced to the first round of sectionals.
Brand was a four-time all-conference and all-county selection at GCHS. On the club circuit, she helped FC Pride win State Cup championships for four consecutive years (2014-17) and was a catalyst behind their 2016 National League Red Division Championship. In 2018, she received Esmark All-America honors. The program recognizes individuals with outstanding athletic, academic and community service achievements across the United States.
"Our staff is excited that Lucy decided to a Bear," said head coach Tony Economopoulos. She knows what it takes to play at the college level, which she did at Xavier. She's a strong, athletic back who will make an impact on our backline."
Brand is the daughter of Greg and Elizabeth Brand and has three siblings, Taylor, Lauren and Nate. Taylor was a member of the Evansville Aces women's soccer team from 2011-14.
The Greenfield, Ind., native is the seventh member of Economopoulos' 2021 recruiting class, joining Lindsay Bell (Marietta, Ga. / Hillgrove HS), Avery Hallam (Lovettsville, Va. / Woodgrove HS), Chandler Lewis-Jenkins (Suwanee, Ga. / North Gwinnett HS), Keelin Pray (Dunwoody, Ga. / Georgia Virtual School), Sara Engels (The Woodlands, Texas / The Woodlands College Park HS) and Lana Whitfield (Johns Creek, Ga. / Johns Creek HS).Â
