MACON, Ga. – Mercer Women's Basketball Head Coach Susie Gardner announced the addition of Nigeria Harkless to her 2020-21 recruiting class Wednesday afternoon.

Nigeria Harkless is a senior at Ribault High School in Jacksonville, Fla., where she led the Mighty Trojans to an 18-5 record and an appearance in the Class 4A Regional Semifinals. After spending her first three seasons at University Christian High School, Harkless was a McDonald's All-American nominee after being recognized on the All-Gateway Conference Team.Â
Â
Harkless averaged a double-double in her lone season at Ribault, going for 18.7 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. She contributed on the defensive end of the floor as well, averaging 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocks per contest.Â
Â
What Coach Stevens Says about Nigeria
"Nigeria is a work horse with tremendous drive. She will be a great addition to the Mercer program. She's self-motivated, and it was an honor to be her coach and have her as a part of our Trojan family. Good luck on your future, Nigeria!"
Â
What Coach Gardner Likes about Nigeria
"Nigeria finished her great high school career at Ribault High School, which is a powerhouse in girls' basketball in the state of Florida, after spending her first three years at University Christian. Throughout the recruiting process, we were looking for an athletic 4-player, so it's a great fit for both us and Nigeria. We are extremely excited about the type of player she can become as she can score the basketball with a soft touch around the rim and make an impact on the glass. She has a high motor to go along with a great basketball IQ, and she plays a style of basketball that is a good fit for the Southern Conference. Nigeria was a McDonalds All-American nominee and has a high ceiling, and we feel like she hasn't even tapped into her potential yet. Her best basketball is ahead of her."
