Bears Sweep Player of the Week Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Dylan Gaither and Brant Zulauf have been named the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, by the Southern Conference.

Gaither, a junior midfielder, led Mercer to a 4-0 season-opening win over Gardner-Webb with a hat trick and an assist. A season ago, the Lilburn, Georgia native was named to the 2020-21 All-SoCon First team and paced the Bears with 16 goals, which was fifth in the conference.

Zulauf, a redshirt sophomore keeper, posted a four-save shutout in the opener against Gardner-Webb, and followed it with a six-save performance opposite Georgia State, including an impressive one to keep it a one-goal deficit in the final minutes of the contest. The Alpharetta, Georgia native posted two wins in three contests in the 2020-21 season.
