Bears defeat the Bulldogs in straight sets
MACON, Ga.  – In the first day of conference play, the Mercer Bears win against The Citadel Bulldogs in three straight sets. "Nice win to start SoCon but still a lot of volleyball to the season," said Head Coach Dex Schroeder. "We all are very happy to be working towards being completely healthy and putting it all together."

Set One (25-15)Â | The Bears started the first set down by two but quickly tied the game following a kill from Annie Karle and a block from Taylor Lynch and Rayanne de Oliveira. The Bulldogs would go up by two again before kills from Brittany Major and Agnieska Paskevic tied the game again at five. A service ace from Lexi Uhrhan would put the Bears up by one, 7-6. Â The Bears extended their lead by six after going on a 5-0 run, 13-7. Kills from Karle and de Oliveira helped extend the Bears lead to eight, 16-8. A kill from Karle followed by a block from de Oliveira and Paskevic put the Bears up by 10, 24-14. Karle closed the set with a kill, 25-15.
Set Two (25-16)Â | After the teams traded points, the Bears went on a 5-0 run to take a three-point lead which included kills from Howell and Lynch and two solo blocks from Major, 7-4. Later in the set, three of Mercer's next four points were from blocks by de Oliveira (2), Major, Lynch and Howell., 5-11. The bears went on a 8-1 run including three kills from de Oliveira, one from both Karle and Lynch (set point) and a service ace from Megan Smith.

A kill from de Oliveira would tie the game at three and a service ace from Lynch would give the Bears a one-point lead, 5-4. After being down by one, a block from Karle and de Oliveira would the game at nine. The Bears continued to work defensively and would take a two-point lead following a block from Lynch and de Oliveira, 12-10. A 3-0 run from the Bears would put them up by five, 17-12. The next 5-0 run from the Bears included two service aces from Uhrhan and two kills from Karle, 23-13. Match point was awarded to the Bears by a service error.
