Mercer Falls in Four Sets to ETSU

Annie Karle led all players with 16 kills
MACON, Ga. - Mercer suffered a 3-1 (25-10, 25-22, 20-25, 25-16) loss to ETSU Saturday evening from Hawkins Arena.
Annie Karle led all players with 16 kills and Lillian Beardsley added 10 kills of her own along with a pair of aces. Lexi Uhrhan had a season-high 22 digs.
One day after a season-low 11 errors, the Bears were unable to that carry over against ETSU as they had 32 errors in the match.
Mercer had a tough time getting it past ETSU's blockers as the Bucs had 13 blocks in the match, the most by any opponent against the Bears this season.
SET ONE | Mercer got out to a 6-3 lead that included a couple of kills from Paige Wagers and an ace from Kiera McCarles. Then, ETSU took control of the set, going on a 14-0 run. The Bears had seven errors leading to points for the Bucs during the run. In the first set ETSU had just one error to Mercer's 11 and won 25-10.
Set Two | Mercer led throughout much of the second set with its biggest lead being five at 11-6 after a pair of kills from Paige Wagers and an attack error from ETSU. ETSU slowly chipped in to Mercer's lead and made it 19-19 before a kill from Annie Karle gave the Bears the lead back at 20-19. The Bears had four errors down the stretch and the Bucs came away with a 25-22 win.
Set Three | In the third set the Bears had their best hitting percentage of the match at .219. They also limited their errors to just five, while ETSU had 11 of its 20 errors in the set. In between four ETSU errors, Annie Karle had a kill to make the score 8-8. Then, with the Bucs leading 14-11 the Bears went on a 10-2 run that included kills from five different players; Rachel Bell, Lillian Beardsley, Kiera McCarles, Annie Karle, and Paige Wagers to put them up 21-16.  The Bears won the set 25-20.
Set Four | In the fourth set, the Bucs had a match-high .364 hitting percentage. Annie Karle had six of her 16 kills in the set. ETSU got out to a 6-2 lead. The Bears made it 12-8 ETSU after a couple of kills from Annie Karle and one kill from Lillian Beardsley. ETSU kept its lead through the rest of the set and won 25-16.
