Brengle, Udvardy Meet for Title
Macon, Ga,  The Mercer Tennis Classic defending singles champ, Madison Brengle, earned her way into the final as she tries to repeat as champion of the Mercer Tennis Classic. Brengle defeated Katie Volynets in Saturday's semifinal at the John Drew Smith Tennis Center.Â
Brengle and Volynets both got off to hot starts on Saturday. Volynets serve and Brengle's forehand were both on fire. But it was Brengle that had only one unforced error the entire first set, and when something like that occurs, you're going to take the first set, and Brengle did 6-2.
More of the same in the second set as Brengle was nailing the lines with down the line backhands and more errors from Volynets. 6-2, 6-3 Brengle, Brengle is now 15-4 in her career playing in Macon.Â
Tournament No. 2 seed, Panna Udvardy of Hungary survived a scare against an unseeded upstart from Brazil, Thaisa Grana Pedretti. To say Pedretti had chances was an understatement. She had leads in both sets and saved four match points against the current world No. 81.
Two top-100 players playing for the singles title in Macon on Sunday.
Brengle missed out on a chance to "double" this week as she and her partner, Maria Mateas were beaten in the finals by Anna Rogers and Christina Rosca.Â
