Scoreless Duel With Wofford
Macon, Ga—The Mercer Bears had a territorial advantage over the Wofford Terriers Thursday night, but were unable to score, as the teams battled to a 0-0 tie in a Southern Conference contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bears (6-3-5 overall, 1-1-3 SoCon) controlled most of the play in the first half, but were unable to generate any real threatening scoring chances. The Bears attempted 10 shots, and six of them on goal.Wofford (6-4-3 overall, 1-1-2 SoCon) had one shot on goal in the first half. Mercer also had a 3-0 edge in corner kicks.
Late in the second half both goalkeepers had to come up with big saves to preserve their respective shutouts. With seven minutes left, Caroline Doss of Wofford stopped a nifty left foot deflection from Nicole Icen that was the Bears best scoring chance of the night. Only three minutes later, the Bears' Lindsay Bell dove to her left to rob Sydney Soehn from 15 yards out, to keep the game scoreless.
