Key Players In Tournament Run
Spartanburg, S.C.—Defender Jamie Hlebec and goalkeeper Lindsay Bell of the Mercer Bears women's soccer team earned spots on the Southern Conference postseason all-tournament team.
Bell and Hlebec were critical in the Bears' tight defensive performance in the tournament, as Mercer advanced to the semi-finals. Mercer allowed just one goal in each of its two tournament games.
The Bears and East Tennessee State battled through a 1-1 overtime tie, with Mercer prevailing 3-2 on penalty kicks. In the semifinal, the Bears dropped a hard fought 1-0 decision to eventual champion Samford.
Mercer finished its season with an overall mark of 9-4-7. The Bears' tournament loss to Samford, was their only loss in their final 10 games.
