
McCreary, Robertson, Zanoni Lead Bears to Win over Troy

Troy, AL. – Jalyn McCreary, Kamar Robertson, and Michael Zanoni helped push the Mercer Men's Basketball team to a victory over Troy University, 82-79, on Wednesday night at Trojan Arena. McCreary posted 22 points and nine rebounds going 10-16 from the field. Kamar Robertson scored 17 points, shooting 5-7 from the field and 4-5 from the free-throw line. Michael Zanoni logged 13 points, shooting 3-3 from beyond the three-point arc. The Bears move to 7-6 on the season.
The Bears started the game off strong, with multiple shots made inside the arc from Shawn Walker Jr., and a lot of strong finishes around the rim from David Craig and Jalyn McCreary. These early lay-ups and mid-range shots allowed the Bears to start finding shots from beyond the three-point arc. Once the three-point shots began to fall, the Bears never looked back.
Three players scored in double figures for the Bears with Jalyn McCreary (22 PTS), Kamar Robertson (17 PTS), and Michael Zanoni (13 PTS).
The Bears shot 30-53 (56.6%) from the field, while going 8-15 (53.3%) from behind the three-point line, and 14-18 from the free throw line.
The Bears had a strong defensive showing against Troy. Troy averages 16.6 fast-break points a game, and the Bears were able to hold them to 13 on Wednesday. The Bears also outrebounded the Trojans 30-24. Mercer also forced nine turnovers with five of them being steals. James Glisson III and Jalyn McCreary each had one block.
Wednesday's win puts the all-time series with the Troy Trojans at 11-10 in favor of Troy.
