MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's basketball team welcomes South Alabama to Hawkins Arena on Sunday, Dec. 4. Tip off is scheduled for 2 p.m.

This is the second year in a row the two teams will square off after not playing each other since 2008. Mercer won last season's game 67-53 in Mobile, Alabama.

Alabama handed the Mercer women's basketball team its first home loss of the season, defeating the Bears 88-52 Wednesday night at Hawkins Arena.In the lead up to the game, the Bears took the opportunity to help benefit and spread awareness about the Merrie Christmas Project and Merrie's Closet.

The Bears shot 38.5 percent from the field, and were 5-of-8 (62.5 percent) from three-point range. Alabama shot 50.7 percent from the field, the highest shooting percentage by any team against the Bears this season.

SCOUTING SOUTH ALABAMA
South Alabama finished the 2021-22 season with an overall record of 8-18. They were predicted to finish 13th out of 14 teams in the Sun Belt Conference. The Jaguars have been solid defensively, holding their opponents to 63.7 points per game. They lead the Sun Belt in three-point field goal defense at 25.6 percent.

Freshman Kelsey Thompson leads South Alabama in scoring at 11.2 points per game. Senior Zena Elias leads the Jaguars in rebounding at 5.5 per game.

SERIES HISTORY
This is the 14th all-time meeting between the Bears and Jaguars. South Alabama leads the series 7-6. Mercer is 2-2 against the Jaguars in Macon.

STANDOUT STAT
Over the last two games, Erin Houpt has scored 36 points on 9-of-17 shooting (52.9 percent) and is 6-for-11 (54.5 percent) from three-point range.
