Mercer defeats Longwood with 20-7 final
MACON, Ga. – Mercer celebrated six seniors – Kileigh Casey, Iseabal Cryne, Haley Gerold, Hannah Lind, Emma Pizzo and Hailey Rhatigan – en route to program-best sixth consecutive league win with a 20-7 margin. Rhatigan led all scorers with eight and even tallied a program-best 200th career goal.

The Bears (10-3, 6-0 Big South) and Lancers (5-9, 2-4) split the first two goals, Mercer's by Rhatigan, in the first four-plus minutes before Rhatigan would score for a lead the home side would not relinquish. Degnan and Kayla Soltys would combine for three more before Longwood answered for a 6-2 score with 1:48 left in the first frame. Shannon Urey capped the first's scoring with just 46 ticks left for the 7-2 lead going into the second.
Abby Soltys found the back of the net off a Degnan assist to bring the lead to 8-2 not even a minute into the second. Rhatigan completed a hat trick with on an unassisted score with 9:14 left in the half for a seven-goal lead. Longwood snuck two past Cryne to bring the deficit down, but was met with another tally by Rhatigan in between to bring the deficit down to six. Rhatigan and Chloe Schaeffer combined for the quarter's last four to take a 10-goal advantage to the break at 14-4.
In a span of four-plus minutes, Urey, Maddi Koury, Rhatigan and DiVirgilio each notched goals to bring the lead to 18-5. Rhatigan tacked her eighth of the day with just 1:06 left in the third.
Of the fourth quarter's split goals, Taylor Yahn took Mercer's on an unassisted strike to cap the score at 20-7.
Cryne made five stops in all 60 minutes of action. Offensively, the Bears fired 38 shots with 29 on net and won 20 0f the contest's 30 draws.
Next time out, Mercer will visit Winthrop on April 20. First draw from Rock Hill is slated for 4 p.m.
