Mercer claims second consecutive Big South win
RADFORD, Va. – Picking up where it left off after their last league game, Mercer used 12 straight goals to take down Radford on Saturday afternoon by a 20-4 line.
The Bears (6-3, 2-0 Big South) were once again led by Hailey Rhatigan, who tallied six goals and an assist to beat the Highlanders. Chloe Schaeffer chalked up a hat trick and assist, while both Erin Degnan and Lyndsey Lewis registered two goals apiece to add to the offense.
Mercer's defense and Isea Cryne – who recorded her 500th save – kept the hosts off the board for nearly the entirety of the first half when Radford found the back of the net with just 43 ticks left to make it a 12-1 game going into the intermission.
After the break, Mercer's offense didn't let up, accounting for eight more in the last 30 minutes. The third and fourth quarters were highlighted by goals from Kayla Soltys, Jordan Bramble and Grace Swail.
With the win, it kept Mercer undefeated against the Highlanders and pushed the overall record to 2-0 in the series.
The Bears will return home to face Gardner-Webb on Wednesday, April 6. Opening draw with the Bulldogs is set for 4 p.m.
