Bears fall to No. 36 Furman in SoCon Tournament opener
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Mercer women's tennis team's season came to a close at the hands of the 36th-ranked Furman Paladins at Chattanooga's Champions Club by a 4-0 margin.
Alara Hollyfield and Francesca Franchi fell in a 6-1 scoreline at No. 3 before the SoCon's Second Team No. 1 duo - Naya Tillitt and Mary Courville - battled and were on the losing side of a 6-4 battle as Furman claimed the doubles point.
The Paladins made quick work to get the necessary points in singles to clinch the match with straight-set wins at Nos. 5, 3 and 2.
Mercer caps off the season with a 6-16 mark and a 0-7 record in league play.
