Newest recruit joins Bears from Sabadell, Spain
MACON, Ga. – Mercer Women's Basketball Head Coach Susie Gardner and staff have announced the signing of Maria Serracanta to the program ahead of the 2022-23 season.
Serracanta, a native of Sabadell, starred for FC Barcelona Femenino for five years and helped lead the team to a state championship and a pair of runner-up finishes, as well as national finishes in the top six. Prior to joining FCB, she was selected to the best five of the 2016-17 Parets Tournament and to the best five and best two of the 2014-15 Cambrils Tournament, as well as being tabbed the event's best three-point shooter.

Guard
6'0"
Â
A well-rounded student-athlete, Serracanta achieved academic honors – 9.85 out of 10 – while attending Escola Sant Nicolau in Sabadell. Excelling in more than basketball, she represented Spain in a pair of World Cups in beach tennis, in addition to competing in tennis.

What Coach Gardner says about Maria
"We are very excited to add Maria to our team. She is a long guard that at 6'0" can play the 1-3, and we have had great success with our guards that have length. Her versatility and her ability to pass the ball and her desire to learn our system will allow her to see the court early. I am very proud of my staff and how hard they have worked to bring five freshmen and two transfers to our mix of returners. It will be our challenge to once again combine our championship mentality with the new players entering our program," she said.
