Bears’ coach honored by Silver Waves Media
MACON, Ga. – Following another championship season that featured an appearance in the NCAA Tournament, Ben Wierzba was tabbed as one of Silver Waves Media's Most Impactful Mid Major Assistant Coaches.
Since the 2015-16 season – his first in Macon – the Bears have posted 20 or more wins on five occasions and made postseason tournaments five times, including four trips to the NCAA Tournament and once to the WNIT.
Three players he's guided – Kahlia Lawrence, Amanda Thompson and Shannon Titus – were named to the Southern Conference's 100th Anniversary Team for women's basketball last December. Lawrence – the program's first WNBA draftee – played a key role in the Bears' first trip to the NCAA Tournament and holds the third-most points in history. Thompson was selected as the league's Player of the Year in 2019 and tallied more than 1,120 minutes in her final season with the Bears. Titus holds the distinction of being the only three-time Defensive Player of the Year in the league and holds the record for most steals in a career.
