Mercer Finishes Strong at Home

Both cross country team finished second overall at the Mercer-MGA Julius Johnson Invitational on Sept. 16
MACON, GA – The Mercer cross-country teams competed in the Mercer-MGA-Julius Johnson Invitational on Sept. 16. This meet was hosted on the home venue, Georgia Premier Cross-Country Course. Both the men's and women's teams finished second overall with 48 and 42 points respectively.
"We had a solid race on both sides today against strong competition. We raced for the win and came up a little short but this was big progress for the entire group from our last outing," Coach Josh Hayman said. "Josh [Kraver] and Laney [Doster] particularly impressed us with their jump in performance. We're looking forward to taking the momentum into our next race at Live in Lou to go against a stacked field."
WOMEN'S RACE (5K)
The ladies averaged 19:40, a time which was both faster than the trip to Covered Bridge Open on Sept. 2nd and 20 seconds faster than the previous team's best performances on this course. The women's team was led by Brianna Teegarden who was behind her best time of 19:08 by .03 seconds. This is Teegarden's second time leading the Bears this season and was second place overall. Laney Doster finished close behind with a time of 19:34.87. Leah Pfaff (19:48.55) and Giulia Giorgi (19:49.44) followed, with Iris Porter (19:59.0) closing out the scoring for the Bears.

MEN'S RACE (8K)
The men cruised to a new program best average time of 26:14 out at Georgia Premier, over 50 seconds faster than the previous best mark. The team was led by Joshua Kraver who finished with a 25:38.52 time and fourth overall. Vladimir Zander-Velloso was close behind with a 25:58.98 time.
