Volleyball Travels to Samford then Hosts Chattanooga

MACON – Mercer volleyball splits home and away matches this week, traveling to Birmingham to play Samford on October 12 at 8 p.m. (Eastern) then hosting Chattanooga on October 15 at 1 p.m.
The Bears are coming off of two 3-0 conference wins at home against ETSU and Furman on October 6 and 7. The Paladins came into the match with a 12-3 record (3-1 SoCon), but the Bears put up an exciting fight to send Furman home with two losses on the week.Â
Samford has an 8-10 record (3-3 SoCon) and is also coming off of two 3-0 wins. Since 2000, Samford leads the series 21-6, including the most recent matchup in November 2022, winning 3-0. The Bears' away record at Samford is 1-11.
Chattanooga carries a 15-6 record (3-3 SoCon), most recently losing 1-3 to Western Carolina and defeating Furman 3-0. Now in her second season leading the Mocs, Coach Julie Torbett helped the team achieve the first winning season since 2016 in 2022. Mercer won the most recent matchup in October of 2022 3-0 and is 8-2 in the last 10.
Chattanooga and Samford will play each other on October 13.

Following this weekend, the Bears will be on the road to face UNCG for the second time in conference play on October 20 in Greensboro.
