MACON – The Bears fought and fell to the conference-leading Bulldogs in three sets at Hawkins Arena on Friday night.Â

Set two was evenly played until a 10-10 tie. From that point, The Citadel went on a 15-0 run to quickly end the set. SET 1 I 21-25 | After The Citadel got off to a quick 5-0 start, the Bears finally got on the board with a service error, followed by a block by Mykole Morgan and Kiera McCarles and a kill by Gia Padilla for two more points. After digging into the lead bit by bit, the Bears took their first lead of the match to send it into the media time out at 15-14. Skyler Bumpers scored her second kill of the night immediately after resuming play. Mercer took a timeout after Citadel took a 20-22 lead but only scored once more before Citadel reached 25. |
SET 2 I 10-25 | While the Bulldogs scored first, the Bears struck back with an opening point of their own and started set two much closer than set one before falling to 5-8 and calling a timeout. Back-to-back kills by Skyler Bumpers and Mykole Morgan brought the Bears within one. After being tied at 10, the Bulldogs went on a 15-0 run to end the set. |
SET 3 I 14-25 | For the first time in two days, the Bears were the first team to score to open the set. Mercer stayed down four to six points up to the media timeout at 9-15. Despite some powerful kills and an ace, they could not muster enough momentum to slow down the conference leader. |
