GREENVILLE, S.C. – Just less than 48 hours removed from registering a key performance in the Mercer football team's momentum-swinging 45-38 upset victory at then-No. 10 Western Carolina on Saturday, redshirt sophomore quarterback Carter Peevy was crowned as the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon, the league office announced.
Â
Peevy, a Lawrenceville native, turned in both a passing touchdown and two rushing touchdowns on Saturday as the Bears picked up their first win over a nationally-ranked opponent since the 2021 campaign. The Archer High School product threw for 212 yards on 18-of-28 passing, while also logging 38 rushing yards as well.
Â
Seven of his 18 completions against the Catamounts chewed up 15 yards or more, while he also tallied a trio of 10+-yard runs, including a 22-yard scamper late in the fourth quarter that energized Mercer's final touchdown drive.
Â
Peevy ranks third among SoCon quarterbacks with a 149.1 passer efficiency rating, and ranks second in the league with a 67.3 percent completion percentage. He has also thrown a SoCon-low three interceptions as well.
Â
The 25th-ranked Bears (6-3, 4-2 SoCon) will close out the road portion of their 2023 regular season schedule on Saturday when they trek to Charleston, S.C., to take on The Citadel (0-8, 0-5) at Johnson Hagood Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m.
