Football Climbs To No. 21 In StatsPerform Poll, Breaks Back Into AFCA Top 25

MACON – The Mercer football team continued to assert itself in the national picture on Monday when the Bears climbed two spots to No. 21 in the StatsPerform FCS Top 25 poll, while diving back in to the American Football Coaches Association Top 25 ranking in the No. 24 position.

The No. 21 ranking in the StatsPerform FCS Top 25 poll matches the highest of the season for the Bears (8-3, 6-2 SoCon) who wrapped up the regular season portion of their 2023 slate with a 28-21 home win over league nemesis Samford on Saturday. The Orange & Black's appearance in the AFCA edition of the national rankings is the program's first appearance in that poll since late September.

Mercer has now captured six of its last seven games, and currently sports a 4-game win streak.

The Bears will take a 1-week hiatus from competition before learning of their postseason fate on Sunday when the 24-team field for the 2023 FCS Playoffs is announced. The FCS Playoffs Selection Show is set to air on ESPNU on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
