Tim Hudson To Headline 15th Annual First Pitch Classic

MACON – Tim Hudson, a 17-year Major League Baseball veteran, 4-time all-star selection and 2014 World Series champion, will serve as the keynote speaker for the Mercer baseball team's 15th Annual First Pitch Classic on February 12 in Hawkins Arena, head coach Craig Gibson announced Friday.

The First Pitch Classic serves as the Mercer baseball program's premier fundraising event, and has marked the official start of the season for the last 14 years. Tickets to this year's event can be purchased for $100, and include dinner as well as a cash bar that will be open throughout the event's entirety. A raffle has been included in the night's agenda as well.

The 15th Annual First Pitch Classic will begin with an autograph session at 5:30 p.m., with dinner following at 7 p.m. Tables (10 seats) for the event can be purchased for $1,000, while limited-quantity sponsorships, which include prominent business advertisements, drink tickets and 2024 season tickets, can be pre-purchased as well.

Hudson made his MLB debut on June 8, 1999, as a member of the Oakland Athletics and spent six seasons (1999-2004) in the Bay Area before being traded to the Atlanta Braves prior to the start of the 2005 season. The sinkerballer spent nine seasons in Atlanta, logging 113 wins and a 3.56 earned run average, including an all-star campaign in 2010 that saw him tally a 17-9 record and a 2.83 ERA in 228-2/3 innings pitched.

A valued member of the San Francisco Giants rotation during the 2014 and 2015 campaigns, "Huddy" earned his fourth trip to the all-star game amid his first season back in the Bay Area, and earned the start in Game 7 of the 2014 World Series. The Giants won that contest, 3-2, over the Kansas City Royals to secure the program's eighth World Series crown.
