SENIOR DAY
Three players will be recognized following the conclusion of Saturday's game: Jaron Dougherty, Brittany Reeves, and Amoria Neal-Tysor.
Dougherty is a graduate student who has played five years at Mercer. She has over 1,400 points 800 rebounds in her career. She has been apart of two regular season SoCon championship teams, three conference tournament championships, and three NCAA Tournament teams.Â
Reeves is also a graduate student who transferred from Oklahoma State to return home to Macon, Georgia where she grew up. This season she has appeared in all 22 games, making 19 starts. Reeves had a double-double including a career-high 15 points earlier this season against South Alabama.
Neal-Tysor is the third player who will be recognized on Senior Day. Like Dougherty, she is in her fifth season at Mercer, winning two regular season championships, three conference tournament championships and has helped guide the Bears to three NCAA Tournament appearances. She was twice named SoCon Tournament MVP.Â
Neal-Tysor has scored over 1,600 points in her career. The last two seasons she has finished second in the SoCon in scoring at over 16 points per game and this year is third in the conference at 15.8 points per game.
LAST TIME OUT
A potential game-tying shot from Amoria Neal-Tysor in the closing seconds wouldn't fall as Chattanooga held on for a 64-61 win Thursday.
In a tightly contested game throughout, in which neither team led by more than seven points, the Bears couldn't come up with a couple of plays in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
Each team shot better than 50 percent from the floor, but in the first half Mercer came out defensively with a lot of energy and forced four shot clock violations from the Mocs in the opening 20 minutes.
Jaron Dougherty led all scorers with 20 points on 9-for-19 shooting to go with eight rebounds and two steals.
Enjulina Gonzalez continued to be efficient shooting the ball as she went 8-for-11 from the field for 16 points. Amoria Neal-Tysor was the other Bear to score in double-figures with 14 points on 5-for-10 shooting.
SCOUTING ETSU
The Bucs were picked to finish sixth in sixth in the eight team league in the preseason coaches poll.
Mercer defeated ETSU 66-52 in the first meeting between the two teams. ETSU has won five of it's last six and is coming off a road win at Samford.
ETSU has the second best scoring defense in the SoCon as opponents are scoring just 55.0 points per game against them.
In conference play, the Bucs are behind only Mercer in scoring margin as they are outscoring conference opponents by 5.6 points per game.
Graduate guard Jiselle Thomas leads the SoCon in scoring in conference play as she is averaging 17.3 points per game through nine conference games.
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the 46th meeting all-time between Mercer and ETSU. Mercer leads the series 25-20.
STANDOUT STAT
Between Jaron Dougherty and Amoria Neal-Tysor, the two have combined to score 3,107 points in their Mercer careers.
