
Road Test At Samford First Of Three Straight On Road For Bears

MACON, Ga. - The Mercer women's basketball team will play at Birmingham, Alabama to take on Samford Saturday. Tip off is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
This is the first of three straight road games for the Bears to close out the regular season.

Erin Houpt led all players with 13 points, but the Bears as a team shot just 32 percent from the floor and a substandard second quarter hurt the Bears as ETSU claimed a 62-46 win on Senior Day last Saturday, Feb. 11.
Mercer led by one after the first quarter, but ETSU outscored the Bears 21-7 in the second to grab the momentum and take a 13-point lead at halftime.
ETSU got most of their scoring either in the paint where they had a 28-12 advantage or from behind the arc where they made six 3-pointers to Mercer's three.Â
Erin Houpt led all players with 13 points on 4-for-9 shooting to go with three rebounds and two assists.
Enjulina Gonzalez was the other Mercer player to score in double figures as she had 10 points and seven rebounds, one shy of her career high. Defensively, Brittany Reeves had a career-high four blocks.
SCOUTING SAMFORD
The Bulldogs were picked to finish fourth in the eight team league in the preseason coaches poll. Mercer defeated Samford 70-63 in the first meeting between the two teams this season.
Samford is 8-4 at home this season. Samford leads the SoCon in scoring at 67.7 points per game. They are second in the conference - behind Mercer - in field goal percentage (45.7%) and in 3-point field goal percentage at (38.7%) in conference play.
In conference play, the Bulldogs lead the SoCon in assists per game at 13.8 per game. Two assists more than the next closest team, Chattanooga (11.7).
Senior guard, Andrea Bailey leads the SoCon in scoring at 17.7 points per game. She ranks seventh in the SoCon in field goal percentage at 44.0 percent. Bailey also leads the SoCon in assists and steals per game in conference play as well as assist-to- turnover ratio at 2.7.
Sophomore Sussy Ngulefac leads the SoCon in field goal percentage in conference play at 63.4 percent.

This will be the 27th meeting all-time between Mercer and Samford. Mercer leads the series 20-6.
